GFSC focuses on scam awareness for World Investor week 2022

04 Nov 22

The Gibraltar Financial Services Commission will once again be taking part in the annual World Investor Week (“WIW”) campaign, that we will be running from Monday 7 November to Monday 14 November. WIW is a global campaign organised by the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection.

The GFSC will focus this campaign on investor protection specifically aimed at senior members of the local community. We will be hosting events throughout Gibraltar to raise awareness and encourage discussions about how to become more alert, and not fall victim, to scams.

The GFSC is very pleased to support this campaign through a range of activities. During the week, we will be hosting various information stands at several locations in Gibraltar where we will be providing information and discussing scenarios scammers may use to entice people to invest or share their personal information and how to not become a victim to scam.  Our information stands will be at Atlantic Suites, John Mackintosh Hall, and the University of and we will also be holding events at a number of the Senior Citizen clubs/premises.

Our Director of Specialist Regulation, Heidi Bocarisa said “We are excited to be part of World Investor Week for the 6th year running. This year we will largely focus our attention on senior citizens and provide information on how to keep their personal information and money safe. Throughout the week we hope our senior citizens will come and share their experiences, discuss some typical scam scenarios and take-away learnings on how these can be avoided and how to keep safe.”

Public Information stands will be held in:

·        Atlantic Suites on Monday 7th November and Thursday 10th November from 10:00-12:00pm

·        University of Gibraltar on Friday 12th November from 9:30-11:30am

·        John Mackintosh Hall Monday 14th November from 10:00 – 12:00pm
