This guide has been designed in order to help consumers understand the world of banking and the different aspects related to this. This guide is not exhaustive, and is intended to only provide guidance and direction. The term 'Bank' in this guide is used loosely to include building societies as well as banks. Banks can operate in Gibraltar as a branch of a bank established elsewhere, or as a separate legal entity incorporated under the laws of Gibraltar.

This guide does not distinguish between either type of legal entity.
