It is with great sadness that the FSC has to announce today the death of
a Commission Member, Terry Mathews.
Terry was the oldest serving member of the Commission and passed away
peacefully on Sunday night on the eve of what would have been his
penultimate Commission meeting.
The Commission Members and the Staff of the FSC wish to express their
most sincere condolences to Terry's wife and family.
Marcus Killick the Commissioner said
"Terry was a strong supporter of Gibraltar and the its finance
industry and will be missed by all who knew him. Over his period as a
Commission member he provided the FSC with the benefit of his experience
with both careful thought and a natural good humour."
Terry's first Appointment to Commission was in March 1995. he has served
on the Commission longer than any other member. His experience on its
evolution has therefore been of great help.
His work on the Building Societies Commission and later the FSA (from
which he retired in 2002) has been of immense value to the Commission and
its staff who valued Terry both in a professional as well as personal
capacity. Terry was the chairperson of the recruitment panel for the present
and past Commissioners which is a tribute to the high regard that was had of
him by other Commission members.
Terry was a keen amateur thespian and was busy making arrangements for
the Tower Theatre Company, of which he was a member of, to perform in
Gibraltar in 2005.
The funeral service will be held at the King's Chapel on Thursday. His
ashes will be dispersed at sea on Friday by his widow Barbara.
