FAQs

What is the timeframe for the Strategic Plan?

The timeframe of the Strategic Plan spans a 3 year period. Our key strategic objectives to be implemented during this time are highlighted within the Plan.

To support the implementation of the plan we have already commenced an organisational restructure which will improve the effective and efficient operational delivery of authorisation, supervision and, where necessary, enforcement. We have also formed an authorisation project team who are working to develop and deliver a streamlined and un-bureaucratic authorisation process focused on the important risks. The authorisation team have already been working with the industry to collect feedback on the current approach and process used.

We will continue to build our organisation and focus on making the changes necessary to deliver our strategic objectives. We will publish our business plans which will clearly set out our priorities for each year. We will also continue to publish annual reports which will reflect upon what we have achieved within a given year.

Finally, the programme of change to support delivery of the strategic plan has been developed in a way that balances the delivery of various elements of the change programme with “business as usual” delivery. Responsibility for ensuring effective implementation of key changes has been assigned to the Director of Strategy and Planning who will work with other senior members of staff to ensure that any transition is conducted in a controlled and structured environment. We will also be phasing in the movement to our new structure, which will be effective as from 1st January 2015.

How will the GFSC staff know and understand my type of business?

In order to ensure that all firms receive timely attention and focus required, an individual with sector specific experience in that area will be appointed to work with you. For example, a fund application will be dealt with by an individual who understands and has experience of the funds sector.

Will I be able to talk to an expert in my field?

Yes of course. The GFSC is structured in such a way that it supports the ongoing development of experienced staff within a number of fields.

The revised structure will be fully effective on 1st January 2015. Until that time you are encouraged to continue liaising with your current contact person until we have confirmed whether your contact will change and if so who your new contact person will be. We have also appointed senior individuals with sector specific experience to be lead contact points for particular sectors. Their details are set out on the "Sector Leads" area. They will ensure that your query is dealt with in the most efficient way possible.

Does the GFSC intend to consult on changes to regulatory approaches and practices?

Your views and experience are important in helping us to understand how best to approach delivering multiple elements of our regulatory remit. Consequently we intend to continue consulting widely with organisations and individuals on many different issues. We will use different channels to ensure you are involved at the early stages. At all times we will be working to ensure greater transparency and understanding about the adopted process, including the opportunity for those affected to provide views and feedback and to talk directly with us about specific issues.
